The
University of Nantes will carry this UNESCO Chaire, with support from the
research program EnJeu[x] (University of Angers). A dozen universities and
numerous francofone partners over the world will be involved in this great
project.
This UNESCO
Chaire is the first and only one in the world, specifically dedicated to this
topic. So, this represents a real institutional recognition, at na
international level, of the need and relevance of the teaching of philosophy to
children.
The UNESCO
Chaire on the practice of philosophy with children (4 -18 years) aims to help
the developmentof these civic practices through research, teaching, training,t
he spread of educational tools in School and the City and the international
cooperation of the actors.
The
challenges of the practice of philosophy with children meet the UNESCO's goals
and values.
Often
restricted/reserved to high school or higher education, the practice of
philosophy is however a key driver for developing the critical thinking,
democratic skills, empathy, openness and intercultural dialogue.
